FLHS Library Media Program
The use of technology in the classroom is integral in creating 21st Century Learners and preparing our students for life in a global society. As the library media specialist, it is my job to assist you in the integration of technology into the curriculum. We have a variety of options available to you, which I have detailed below. Please feel free to visit me anytime to discuss ideas to better meet our students' needs, plan a collaborative unit, or to make suggestions for materials you would like to see in the library. I am happy to provide subject-specific information literacy/research instruction sessions as well as a library orientation to those of you with 9th Grade English classes.

Policies
The library media center is a bustling place throughout the day but especially during lunch periods. Additionally, many classes are held here so it is my responsibility to effectively and efficiently manage the space. Therefore, it is important for us all to be on the same page whether you are utilizing the library with a class, sending students here from your classroom, or on lunch duty.

á
Hours of Operation
The media center is open every period this year and after-school (7:45a - 3:15p). Staff are welcome to use the space at all times. If there is no teacher on-duty, please make sure there are no students present (including volunteers) and make sure the door is locked upon departure.

Study Hall Duty Teachers
Please only allow 3 students from your study hall to visit the media center at a time and make sure each of them has a signed planner.
á
Cafeteria Duty Teachers
Students are permitted to visit the media center at lunch as long as each one has a signed planner. As of now, there is no limit but if it becomes too crowded we will limit the amount of students.

Resources
Online
We have access to various online resources such as turnitin and LibGuides as well as many research databases including EBSCO, Facts on File, SIRS, VRL, and World Book. These can be accessed freely within the building but if you or your students need remote access I can provide you with a password sheet. If you would like assistance with these products or to schedule an instructional session for a research paper/project, let me know. Destiny is our online catalog for books.
á
Print
After an arduous but necessary weeding project, we still have many print books to support your curriculum or for pleasure reading. If you have any titles or series you would like to see added to the collection, email me. Additionally, there are a plethora of magazines and periodicals available for use in the media center with past copies (<6 issues old) available for use in the classroom.
á
Technology
There is one Mac and 15 HP desktop computers connected to two network printers (black-and-white and color) available for use. Other items include a scanner and cold laminator. Also, we have several document cameras and Smart Response clickers that can be loaned-out.

á
Physical Space
Instructional Area
There is a mounted projector with a 10' x 6' screen now installed in the East Wing, which is the instructional area. Please contact me if you would like to book the use of this area for a class or club activity, it is an ideal space for research instruction, a film screening, or guest speaker.
á
Lounge Area

We are still awaiting a delivery of new furniture but there are plans to create a lounge area in the West Wing with comfy chairs and coffee tables. Feel free to use this area, it is not just for students.
